Getting from Cebu to Siquijor: The Island of Fire
No direct ferry exists from Cebu to Siquijor, but the journey is simple: take a bus to Oslob, then two fast ferries via Dumaguete (4–5 hours total, ₱735–850). Or board Cokaliong overnight from Cebu City. Here's the complete guide to the Philippines' most magical island.
No direct Cebu–Siquijor ferry. Fastest: bus to Oslob (₱150–200, 1.5h) → Lite Ferries to Dumaguete (₱130–150, 1h) → Montenegro Lines to Siquijor (₱455–500, 1h). Total ₱735–850, 4–5 hours. Alternative: Cokaliong from Cebu City (₱480–1,200, 6h). Siquijor is isolated but stunning—fireflies, waterfalls, zero crowds.
Why There's No Direct Ferry
There is no direct ferry from Cebu City to Siquijor. Siquijor is a small island off the coast of Negros Oriental, reachable only via Dumaguete or Tagbilaran. The island has one main port (Siquijor Port) and limited ferry infrastructure, so almost all international traffic routes through a larger gateway port.
Route 1: Cebu → Dumaguete → Siquijor (Most Common)
The most direct and popular route involves two ferries and is achievable in a single day.
Cebu to Dumaguete Leg
- Ferry operator: Cokaliong Shipping Lines or Lite Ferries (from Oslob, South Cebu).
- Travel time: 5–7 hours depending on operator and sea conditions.
- Fares:
- Cokaliong (Cebu City to Dumaguete): ₱480–800 economy; ₱1,200+ cabin class.
- Lite Ferries (Oslob to Dumaguete): ₱130–150 (much faster, 1 hour, but leaves from Oslob 25 km south of Cebu City).
- Schedules: Cokaliong operates Monday, Wednesday, Saturday from Cebu City. Lite Ferries runs daily from Oslob.
- Arrival: Dumaguete City Port on the island of Negros Oriental.
Dumaguete to Siquijor Leg
- Ferry operator: Montenegro Shipping Lines (the only operator on this route).
- Travel time: 1 hour by fastcraft; 1.5 hours by RoRo (slower, vehicle ferry).
- Fares:
- Fastcraft (passenger ferry): ₱455–500 one-way.
- RoRo ferry: ₱350–400 (if available; slower but cheaper for vehicles).
- Schedule (daily from Dumaguete): Departures 5:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 2:00 PM (5 trips daily). Return from Siquijor: 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3:30 PM.
- Arrival: Siquijor Port (main town). Walking distance to hotels and attractions.
Total Journey Time
Early departure from Cebu (e.g., 5 AM Lite Ferries from Oslob):
- Cebu City to Oslob: 1.5 hours by bus (₱150–200).
- Oslob to Dumaguete ferry: 1 hour (₱130–150).
- Buffer time at Dumaguete port: 30 minutes.
- Dumaguete to Siquijor ferry: 1 hour (₱455–500).
- Total: 4–4.5 hours door-to-door (Cebu hotel to Siquijor hotel).
Lite Ferries from Oslob is much faster and cheaper than Cokaliong from Cebu City. The trade-off: you need to reach Oslob in South Cebu first. Ceres Bus Terminal (south of Cebu City) has buses to Oslob (₱150–200, 1.5 hours). This shaves 2–3 hours off your journey compared to waiting for a Cokaliong ferry.
Route 2: Cebu → Bohol → Siquijor (Scenic, Slower)
If you want to visit Bohol's Chocolate Hills en route, this option works but adds 2+ hours to your journey.
- Cebu to Bohol: OceanJet or SuperCat, 2 hours, ₱800–1,200 (departs Pier 1 frequently).
- Bohol to Dumaguete: Bus via Tagbilaran (2 hours, ₱150–200).
- Dumaguete to Siquijor: Montenegro Lines fastcraft, 1 hour, ₱455–500.
- Total: 5–6 hours (but you get Bohol highlights).
Best for: Travelers with an extra day or those combining Bohol and Siquijor into a 2–3 day island-hopping trip.
Flight Option (If Available)
A small domestic airport operates in Dumaguete (Sibulan Airport), and Cebu Pacific occasionally offers direct flights Cebu to Dumaguete (1 hour, ₱2,500–4,000). However, flights are not frequent and often cost more than a ferry. Check Cebu Pacific's official website for current routes; they were not consistently available as of early 2026.
Why Siquijor Is Worth the Effort
Despite the indirect access, Siquijor is magical and worth the journey. Known as the "Island of Fire" (fireflies glow at night), it's far quieter and more rural than Cebu or Boracay.

Book Ferry to Siquijor →Timing Tips
Single-day visit (ambitious): Depart Cebu 5 AM via Lite Ferries from Oslob. Arrive Siquijor 11 AM. Explore until 4 PM ferry back (arriving Cebu 7 PM). Works, but tiring.
Overnight (recommended): Arrive Siquijor by early afternoon, stay 1–2 nights. Hotels ₱800–2,500 per night. Enjoy firefly tours and island activities at a relaxed pace.
Rough seas: September–November and June–August can have choppy waters. Ferries still operate, but consider seasickness medication. December–May is calmer.
Where to Stay
- Budget: ₱600–1,200 (small, family-run inns near the port).
- Mid-range: ₱1,500–3,000 (beachfront cottages, basic but clean, often with restaurant).
- Splurge: ₱4,000+ (boutique eco-resorts with sunset views).
Book in advance during Christmas–New Year and Easter. September–November is low season with 20–30% discounts available.
Pro Tips
- Bring cash: Siquijor has limited ATMs. Withdraw money in Dumaguete or Cebu.
- Get off the boat fast: Ferry arrivals are popular with trike drivers and tour operators. Politely decline unless you've pre-booked.
- Rent a motorcycle: Siquijor is small (36 km circumference). A day's motorcycle rental (₱300–500) beats tricycle fares (₱500–800 per trip).
- Firefly tours require patience: They glow only after dark and are weather-dependent. Hire a local guide (₱300–500) for best results.
- Return ferry flexibility: Montenegro Lines has 5 daily trips from Siquijor (7:30 AM–3:30 PM). You can sleep in and catch a late morning ferry.
